Steel, Metal & Building Materials Hauling

Built for the Freight That Built Everything Else.

Steel, metal and building materials are bread-and-butter deck work — but that doesn't mean they're simple loads.

From structural steel and rebar to coils, sheet metal, roofing and lumber, these loads demand the right equipment, careful weight distribution and, above all, experienced securement.

Phil’s Transport Ltd. provides dependable open-deck transportation for steel, metal and construction materials throughout Canada and the United States.

When the freight is heavy, long or unforgiving, experience on the deck matters.

Steel & Metal Transportation

Steel comes in countless shapes, sizes and weights — and each one presents its own transportation requirements.

Our team regularly handles materials including:

  • Sheet metal

  • Steel coils and rolls

  • Structural steel

  • Rebar

  • Steel plate

  • Fabricated steel components

  • Poles and beams

  • Roofing and cladding

  • Long-length materials

  • Metal building components

Whether it's a single heavy component or a full truckload of material headed to a construction site, fabricator or distribution yard, we make sure the trailer and securement method are appropriate for the freight.

Coil Hauling

No Room for Shortcuts.

Steel coils deserve their own category.

Their concentrated weight and shape create risks that aren't present with conventional freight. A coil that isn't properly positioned, blocked and secured can shift with enormous force.

That's why coil securement is never treated as routine.

Our drivers are trained and equipped to transport coils, with the experience to understand proper positioning, weight distribution and securement requirements before the truck moves.

Coils are unforgiving of shortcuts. We don't take them.

Structural Steel, Beams & Long Materials

Long steel and construction materials are a natural fit for open-deck transportation.

Flat decks provide easy access for cranes, forklifts and boom trucks, making them ideal for freight that needs to be loaded or unloaded directly at a fabrication shop, industrial facility or construction site.

Phil’s Transport can handle:

  • Structural beams

  • Steel columns

  • Fabricated assemblies

  • Poles

  • Pipe

  • Rebar bundles

  • Lumber

  • Roofing materials

  • Cladding and siding

  • Palletized building products

For longer or unusually dimensioned materials, our team can determine the appropriate trailer configuration and whether additional permitting or routing considerations apply.

Building Materials Delivered Where They're Needed

Yard to Site. Supplier to Customer.

Construction freight doesn't always travel dock to dock.

It may need to be picked up at a manufacturer, loaded in a supplier's yard and delivered directly to an active construction site where a forklift, crane or boom truck is waiting.

That's where open-deck transportation earns its keep.

With access from the sides, rear and above, our trailers provide the flexibility needed to move building materials efficiently without the restrictions of an enclosed trailer.

We coordinate with shippers and receivers to help make sure the load arrives ready for the next stage of the job.

Securement Is Part of the Service

Getting steel onto the trailer is only the beginning.

Different materials require different approaches to blocking, bracing, chaining, strapping and weight distribution. Sharp edges can damage straps. Long materials can shift. Heavy concentrated loads need to be positioned correctly across the trailer and axles.

Our drivers bring real open-deck experience to every shipment.

They understand that proper securement isn't something you figure out once the freight is already on the deck — it's part of planning the load from the start.

Loads are secured for the freight being carried and checked throughout the trip.

Protection From the Elements

Some steel and building products can travel exposed. Others can't.

When materials need additional protection from moisture, road spray and debris, we can provide tarped transportation appropriate for the load.

Sheet metal, finished components, roofing, cladding and other weather-sensitive materials can be covered and secured to help protect their condition during transportation.

Because delivering the freight isn't enough.

It needs to arrive in the condition it left in.

Flat Deck & Step Deck Options

The right trailer depends on what you're hauling.

Standard flat decks provide excellent accessibility for most steel and building-material loads, while step decks provide additional clearance when taller fabricated components or machinery need to stay within legal height limits.

Phil’s Transport can review the dimensions, weight and loading requirements of your shipment and determine the best equipment for the job.

And when a load falls outside standard legal dimensions, our oversize transportation capabilities allow us to coordinate the permitting, routing and additional requirements needed to keep it moving.
